Serving Corolla, Duck, Carova, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, the entire New Jersey New York metropolitan area, and everywhere in between!

Large family groups, extended families, multi-generation portraits, family reunions, and the beautiful chaos that comes with them are my specialty!
I've been photographing families in Corolla, Duck, and the Currituck 4x4 beaches for over 35 years — with a studio in Historic Corolla Village.
Bringing a family together for a beach portrait is meaningful.
Doing it well—especially with a large or multi-generational family —takes experience, planning, and clear direction.
For more than 35 years, I’ve photographed families visiting Corolla and the Outer Banks, with a particular focus on large family beach portraits. These sessions are calm, organized, and intentional, resulting in a finished portrait your family will be proud to display for generations.
This page is designed to help you understand what matters when choosing a family photographer—and why experience makes all the difference on the beach.
Family beach portraits are about more than standing together and smiling at the ocean.
They’re about connection, timing, light, and creating a portrait that feels natural while still being beautifully composed.
I photograph families of all sizes in Corolla, Carova, and Duck, and the entire Outer Bank, carefully choosing locations and timing based on:
Light and tide conditions
Group size and mobility
The overall feel you want from your portraits
Every session is guided, relaxed, and focused on quality rather than quantity.

Large family beach portraits are a specialty—not an add-on.
When you’re working with grandparents, adult siblings, children, and sometimes family dogs, there’s very little margin for error. The session must move efficiently, feel respectful of everyone’s time, and still result in a timeless portrait of the entire family together.
That’s why large family sessions are planned differently, paced differently, and photographed differently.
Whether it’s grandparents, adult siblings, grandchildren, or extended family, each session is carefully planned to ensure:
-Clear, flattering compositions
-Natural interactions
-Efficient use of time
-Finished artwork everyone is proud to display

Beach photography looks simple—until it isn’t.
Light changes quickly.
Wind picks up.
Children lose patience.
Large groups become distracted.
Experience matters because it allows me to:
Read changing light instinctively
Position large groups quickly and naturally
Keep sessions moving without feeling rushed
Anticipate problems before they appear
After four decades of professional portrait work, I don’t guess—I guide. That confidence allows families to relax, and that relaxation shows in the final portrait.
A family portrait isn’t just about standing in front of the ocean. It’s about guidance, experience, and knowing how to create images that feel natural and timeless.
Outer Banks family sessions are intentionally unhurried. Children are allowed to be themselves. Parents don’t feel rushed. Large groups are carefully arranged so everyone looks connected and relaxed. Years of experience make the difference between a snapshot and a portrait that belongs on your wall.
Corolla and Duck offer wide beaches, open skies, and soft natural light that complements every family. These simple, uncluttered settings ensure your portraits never feel dated.

Whether your family includes five people or twenty-five, every session follows a proven structure:
We begin with the most important portrait first—the full family together
We move into smaller family groupings in an organized flow
We finish with natural variations that still feel polished and intentional
Sessions typically last 45–75 minutes for smaller families and 60–90 minutes for large families, depending on size and requested combinations.
Most families don’t want their portraits to live on a hard drive.
I offer heirloom-quality finished artwork—framed prints, canvases, and custom pieces designed to be enjoyed every day in your home. I help guide size, framing, and placement so your portrait fits your space and stands the test of time.
Digital files may be available, but the true value is in creating a portrait meant to last.

Family portrait sessions are available throughout Corolla, Duck, and surrounding Outer Banks communities. Advance scheduling is recommended during peak vacation season.
If your family is together, this is the moment worth preserving.
I photograph family beach portraits primarily in:
Corolla
Duck
Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head
Each location is chosen for light, access, and comfort—especially important for large families and older family members.
During parts of the year, I also photograph families in the New York City and New Jersey metro area.

Families often ask about timing, clothing, weather, and group size.
You’ll find answers on both this page and the Large Family Beach Portraits FAQ , where I go deeper into multi-generational sessions.
Family beach portraits—especially large ones—are scheduled carefully and in limited numbers.
If your family values experience, organization, and finished artwork, I’d be happy to talk with you about your upcoming Corolla vacation.

Lots of images of large, medium and small family groups on and off the beach in New Jersey and Corolla and Duck and the entire Outer Banks of North Carolina. There are also many images of sunrises, sunsets and surfing photos in the Outer Banks, along with a mix of dog and pet photography, business portraits and headshots from sessions in New York City and all over New Jersey. Lots of fun photos from my journey.

Funny how the good stuff usually isn’t the stuff at all.
It’s quiet mornings…salt air…a shell in the sand…and those few minutes when the sun reminds you to slow down and just be where your feet are.
Keep collecting moments. The rest tends to sort itself out. ☮️❤️🙂 #liveyourdash #obxsunrise
Real talk...
Anybody can buy a professional grade camera, but the camera doesn’t create the photo.
Years from now you won’t remember what camera somebody used.
You’ll remember who was standing beside you.
Kids.
Families.
Moments.
Everybody together under one roof again.
Do it right.
Hire a professional to make that family portrait you’ve always wanted.
Because one day these moments become priceless.
Do it now...
Because sometimes next time...
Becomes never.
I’d love to help create something your family will treasure long after the beach week ends.
✌️❤️🙂

Freedom, family, ocean air, and little footprints in the sand. 🇺🇸
Grateful today for those who made moments like this possible.
Hold hands. Slow down. Savor the moment. ❤️☮️🙂
Real talk...
One day these beach weeks become stories.
The people.
The laughs.
The sandy kids.
The sound of the ocean.
Right now you’re living the stuff you’ll someday look back on.
Take a picture.
Better yet...
Get in one too.
✌️❤️🙂

There’s something kind of cool happening during beach weeks...
Phones get put down a little more.
People stay on the beach a little longer.
Families sit together a little closer.
Take it in.
And while everyone’s here...
Do it right. Hire a professional and make that portrait you’ve always wanted.
Because one day this week becomes the story everyone talks about.
Do it now...
Because sometimes next time...
Becomes never.
✌️❤️🙂

Funny thing about beach weeks...
While you’re in them, they feel normal.
Everybody under one roof again.
Kids running around.
Ocean air and sandy feet.
Don’t just snap a few phone photos.
Do it right. Hire a professional to make that portrait.
Because one day these moments become priceless.
Do it now...Because sometimes next time...Becomes never.✌️❤️🙂
Somewhere along the line people started thinking exercise was about punishment.
I’ve never really seen it that way.
For me it’s always been about feeling good.
Clear head.
Strong legs.
Good energy.
Better mornings.
I still run at least a mile every day, move my body, eat pretty clean, do some yoga … and yeah… I still enjoy a couple of beers now and then too. 🍺🙂
I’m not chasing perfection.
I’m just trying to feel alive and stay engaged with life.
And honestly…
I think optimism might be just as important as vegetables.
Keep moving.
Keep laughing.
Keep going. ☮️❤️😀

Sunrise sneaking over the dunes in Corolla… wildflowers glowing… salty air…
“Here’s to us believers.” — Willie Nile ☮️❤️🙂 #corolladise #OuterBanksSunrise
Every sunrise out here feels like a little reset button. A fresh tide. A clean stretch of sand. Another chance to get it right… or just start again.

Some mornings in Corolla just feel like a reminder…
you don’t have to have it all figured out.
Progress isn’t about where you start, but about showing up and moving forward.
One step through the sand. One sunrise at a time. ☮️❤️😎 #obxsunrise
“Quietness is an essential part of all awareness.” — Margaret Wise Brown
There’s a moment out here… right before the day really gets going… when the only thing you hear is the ocean doing its thing and the sand under your feet. No noise. No rush. Just space to notice it all.
That’s where this place hits different.
Not in the big, loud, obvious way… but in the quiet.
Footsteps in the sand.
Sun climbing slow over the Atlantic.
A path that’s been walked a thousand times… and still feels brand new.
You don’t come to Corolla just to see it.
You come to feel it.
And sometimes… the best part of that feeling
is the quiet. ☮️❤️😀 #corolladise #corollasunrise #obxsunrise
just another evening in Corolla ✌️❤️😀 #liveyourdash

good ole dunc, photographed about an hour ago while hanging in the living room, then edited in chat (ai) and the iPhone photo app. Use the tool, don’t be a tool 🤣✌️❤️🐾 #keepmovingforward #classicallydigital
Low tide, soft light, and that quiet stretch where the fence just disappears into the Atlantic…
No crowds, no noise… just the sound of a small wave rolling in and the sky doing its thing.
Corolla mornings don’t ask for much—just that you show up. ✌️❤️😀 #obxsunrise #liveyourdash
Most dog photos live on your phone.
The best ones live on your walls.
If you’ve been thinking about doing this…
do it now.
Because yeah… sometimes later becomes never.

That quiet moment when the Atlantic wakes up…
light spilling over the horizon, waves just starting to breathe, and the old horse fence standing there like it’s seen it all before.

Corolla just moves a little slower…Flip flops. Ocean air. No real schedule. And somehow… that’s when families feel the most like themselves.I wrote a quick post about the slow rhythm of life here—and why it might be the most important time to capture your family portrait 👇👉 Read it here: https://blorenz.com/2026/04/the-slow-rhythm-of-life-in-corolla/ Because sometimes…Later becomes never.Peace, love, and beach time. ✌️❤️🙂#CorollaNC #OuterBanksLife #BeachVibes #CorollaFamilyPhotographer #OBXFamilyPhotos FamilyMoments RepublicOfCorolla
There is a profound beauty in simply being alive.
When you see it, truly see it, life stops feeling like something you’re chasing…
…and starts feeling like something you’re gently holding in your hands, grateful for every breath. ✌️❤️😀 #liveyourdash #obxsunrise
Last day of the season for me - really (I think😆) ✌️❤️⛷️ #whynot #useitorloseit

Not just immediate family…
Everyone.
Grandparents. Kids. All of it.
Yeah… doesn’t happen that often.

As the sun climbs up over Corolla… the whole beach just kind of wakes up slow.
Salt air.
Rolling waves.
Barefoot mornings.
No rush… just that quiet OBX magic doing its thing.

Real question…
Is your dog really just a pet?
Yeah… didn’t think so.
They’re part of the family.
Which is exactly why they belong in your beach photos too.
I wrote a quick post about why dogs are always welcome in my Outer Banks portrait sessions 👇

There’s a moment every evening in Corolla…
When the sun drops low, the light turns golden, and everything just slows down.
That’s when the magic happens.
That’s why sunset is hands down the best time for Corolla beach family photos.
I just put together a quick post explaining why this time of day makes all the difference 👇👉 Read it here: https://blorenz.com/2026/03/the-magic-of-sunset-portraits-on-the-outer-banks/
