A Little Bit About Our Republic
The Republic of Corolla (ROC) was proudly and somewhat accidentally established by the historic secession of that sandy stretch of paradise known as Corolla, North Carolina, from the United States of America on July 8th, 2009 (7-8-09) at approximately eight minutes and nine seconds past 7 PM.
After a brief consultation with the tides, a cooler full of beverages, and the nearest pelican, our founder formally and politely notified the U.S. Department of State of our independence—politely giving them 72 hours to respond before things got, you know, official.
To everyone’s astonishment (and our eternal delight), the United States never responded.
Nothing from the Secretary of State, no visit from the Coast Guard. They never even sent the littlest
letter informing us that they objected
to the secession,
or even a “….while this is quite funny,
you must realize you cannot be a real country…..”
Nothing. Nada. Zip. Goose egg.
And as any reasonable person knows, silence means consent.
Thus, with no objections filed and plenty of enthusiasm, our plucky little republic was born, and continues to thrive — a land of sun, salt air, and stubborn independence, where every day is Independence Day, and every sunset feels like a state occasion.
Long live the Republic of Corolla — a nation of good vibes, sandy feet, and impeccable timing.
