Where do you photograph beach portrait sessions in the Outer Banks?
Most of my beach portrait sessions take place in Corolla, Carova, and Duck, North Carolina. I’ll help you choose the best beach access and time based on where you’re staying, your group size, and the light. You don’t need to scout locations—I handle that part.
Do you specialize in large family group portraits?
Yes—large, multi-generational family portraits are a specialty. With over 40 years of experience, I know how to organize big groups quickly, pose everyone naturally, and create a classic portrait that actually looks good on your wall—not a chaotic lineup.
When is the best time of day for beach photos?
The most flattering light is usually during the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, often called golden hour. Morning sessions can also be beautiful and quieter. I’ll recommend the best option for your week in the Outer Banks so you’re not guessing.
How far in advance should we book our session?
During peak season, many families book weeks or even months ahead. If you’re already in town, it’s still worth reaching out—depending on the week, I can sometimes accommodate last-minute sessions.
What should we wear for our beach family portraits?
Think simple, timeless, and coordinated, not matching. Soft neutrals and ocean-inspired colors photograph beautifully on the beach. Avoid large logos and busy patterns. I’m always happy to help large families coordinate outfits so everyone looks great without overthinking it.
What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate?
Beach weather is part of the experience. If conditions aren’t safe or flattering—heavy rain, storms, or strong wind—we’ll reschedule within your vacation week whenever possible. I watch the forecast closely and stay in touch so there are no surprises.
Do you offer prints and wall art, or just digital files?
I’m a full-service portrait photographer. My focus is creating heirloom-quality finished artwork—framed prints, canvases, and pieces designed to be enjoyed every day in your home. Digital files may be available, but the real value is in portraits meant to last for generations.
How long does a beach portrait session take?
Most family beach sessions last 45–75 minutes, depending on group size. For large extended families, we work efficiently so we capture the classic “everyone together” portrait along with relaxed, natural variations?
Do you photograph outside the Outer Banks?
Yes. I also photograph families and portraits in the New York City and New Jersey metro area during parts of the year. If you’d like a session there, just reach out and I’ll share availability and details.
How can we help make our large family session run smoothly?
Arrive a few minutes early, keep personal items simple, and choose one person to help gather family members when needed. I’ll handle the posing and flow—your job is simply to relax and enjoy being together.

The Seal of the Republic of Corolla is a masterpiece of coastal symbolism, steeped in salt air, sunburn, and just the right amount of rebellion.
At its center rises the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, standing tall as the Republic’s eternal beacon—guiding confused locals, lost tourists, wayward pelicans, and the occasional rogue paddleboarder safely home. It represents vigilance, hospitality, and our shared commitment to never climbing all those stairs again.
To the side, a surfer carries his board overhead, symbolizing the tireless pursuit of the perfect wave (and the willingness to look heroic doing it). His stance reflects the Republic’s national motto: “Stay Upright and Carry On.”
